The Universe Provides Cake

Like Faux Fuchsia, I am starting to believe that the universe is cake-centric. While the universe directs FF to bake, it mostly just directs me to eat baked goods.

Due to wedding-in-less-than-60-days panic I am no longer allowed to eat baked goods. Mores the pity. However, the universe has instead provided me with a cake in lieu. A wedding cake to be more precise.

My parents are so lovely that they naturally attract wonderful people. And so it turns out that Martha, the 70+ Egyptian chef at their business, had a previous career as a pastry chef/wedding cake maker. As soon as she heard I was getting married she offered to make my cake!

I asked for something ruffled, somewhere in between the Taj Mahal and two tiers. A few sneak peeks of the one layer test cake she made are below. Fab or what?! I can't wait to eat it!

What sort of cake did you have? Fruit cake, icing, dessert bar? We are having chocolate cake inside ours!

Stay Stylish,
L

  1. Oh how lovely!

My wedding cake was the wrong cake. As in they made the wrong design. Not sure still to this day how it happened. Bitterly disappointed. But I had an absolutely divine cake made for our baby shower. Very much made up for the badness that was our wedding cake.

We had chocolate on one tier and almond on another. I never tasted the almond though, because one of my friends ate 20 pieces!!

    1. People will probably have to forcibly remove me from the cake table at the end of the night - I love cake!

  2. Yum that looks divine!!

I had 4 tiers as we had 180 guests and the tiers alternated like this:

    White chocolate and raspberry
    Chocolate fudge and macadamia
    white choc and raspberry again
and then our top tier was a mix of both!

We didn't get to eat any on the night so took the top tier home and ate a wedge of it before freezing!!

  3. I had the traditional fruit cake. My mother made the cake bit and then cake decorator did the decorating. WE were married in 1995. THe top layer was wrapt and in a plastic container and kept for first baby's christening, as you do. Well that didn't happen until he was 12! So I dug the cake out of the cupboard last year and fed it to the chooks! They munched on it for a week, pecking bits and pieces out of it. You know, it still looked fine after 16 years! But I just could not bear feeding it to anyone and having them be ill. If I had my time again I would not do fruit cake but I would either have a choc mud or a layered lemon curd cake or even something that had a cream cheese frosting! I am much more cake savvy now than I was then!

    1. Mum made a traditional fruit cake for Willow, which was beautiful. She 'fed' the cakes sherry for weeks leading up to the day! The bf really wanted chocolate, which I am happy with. I am also having a dessert table bc I just love cake so much and thanks for reminding me I really need a lemon tart!!! L xx
